Frequently Asked Questions

Is therapy right for me?

Therapy can be so beneficial for anyone! Life can be challenging, and we often don’t give ourselves the luxury of taking time to check in about how we’re doing and where we’re going. Therapy can give us the time and space to check in about what we want out of life and how to achieve it, deal with problems that are bothering us, or attain a better understanding of ourselves and our relationships. Therapy can help us manage emotions, learn coping skills, improve self-esteem, determine our values, transform our relationships, and so many other things that are too numerous to list.

What does the consultation look like?

Our first consultation can be over the phone or over video, whichever is more comfortable for you. During this 15 minute chat, I’d love to hear what you are wanting to work on in our sessions or what brings you to therapy, as well as anything else you’d like me to know (for example, what’s worked or not worked for you in the past, or any concerns or questions you might have). I also explain a little about my background and approach, so you can decide if I’m a good fit for you, as well as a brief discussion of logistics (scheduling, fee, etc).

What type of techniques do you use in therapy?

My therapy approach is person centered, which means that it’s flexible to adapt to what works for you as an individual. Common techniques I use include mindfulness strategies, Acceptance & Commitment therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Emotionally Focused Therapy. Ultimately though, I see the counseling space and relationship as the true means for positive change. Being heard, seen, and validated is so transformational for us, as is being given the space to take a closer look at things and talk them out to consider them more deeply.

Do you accept my insurance?

I currently contract with Headway to accept Premera, Regence, Aetna, and BCBS of Massachusetts. For other insurances, I am more than happy to provide you with superbills for your sessions. These superbills include a diagnosis and CPT code to allow you to seek out of network reimbursement from your insurance company, which helps to keep the cost of therapy more affordable. My rates are set on the basis of my education, years of experience, professional licensure, and ongoing professional development.
